Environmental Physics Division

The Environmental Physics Division of the European Physical Society (EPS) represents and provides a forum for European Scientists in any aspect of Environmental Physics including its neighbouring disciplines. This comprises the physics of global and climate change, the physics of the atmosphere (including atmospheric processes, radiation transport, remote sensing of the atmosphere), the physics of the hydrosphere, the cryosphere, air-water interactions and natural resources.

Founded in 2001, the EPD has first concentrated on the Earth atmosphere, both from the measurement and the modelling side. Remote sensing from space of atmospheric composition has been the focus of divisional activity in the beginning.

Objectives

  • One of the main activities of the EPD is to organize or co-host symposia, conferences or workshops in Environmental Physics.
  • EPD is also interested to provide input to the EPS on issues of importance in its research area and of research management.
  • A charter for an EPD award has been accomplished aimed at a prize for young scientists and a medal for lifetime achievement in Environmental Physics.
  • Johannes Orphal – Chair

  • Adelbert P.H. Goede

  • Therese Huet
  • Ulrich Platt
  • Christian von Savigny
