conference grants
The EPS makes funds available each year for a limited number of grants, directly to organisers of EPS Europhysics or Sponsored Conferences. Europhysics Conferences are eligible for all three types of support. In contrast, the organisers of Sponsored Conference are only eligible for the “Conference Grants”.
Conferences Grants
The EPS makes grants available to conference organizers to allow for the participation of young scientists in their meeting who otherwise would not be able to attend. Only EPS Sponsored and Europhysics Conferences are eligible. The maximum grant per conference is Euro 1,000.
Conditions for participation
Organizers of recognized (“Sponsored” and “Europhysics”) conferences.
Recipients of the grants should not normally have received their PhD more than 6 years (or equivalent) prior to the application and present a contribution, studying or working at a European institution or demonstrating economic need.
Conference organizers are required to include the EPS logo on conference advertising material, and include any advertising material from the EPS into the conference bag.
The conference organizers give an amount, not exceeding Euro 350.-, to each recipient to support travel and local expenses, and agree to waive registration fees. The organizers are obliged to send the contact information of the recipients prior to EPS sending the grant.
Conference organizers are obliged to send a report giving an overview of the conference.
Selection procedure & criteria
EPS Sponsored and Europhysics Conferences are eligible to receive a number of grants based on the expected number of participants and need of the particular meeting. A simple email requesting an EPS conference grant, indicating the expected number of participants and the number of grants requested is all that is necessary to apply.
Time period
Applications may be made at any time, normally at least 6 months prior to the start of the conference. The decision process requires approximately 2 months.
Applications should be sent to the EPS Secretariat via email.
Invited Speaker Grants
The EPS makes grants available to conferences organized by EPS Divisions and Groups in all fields of physics to cover costs of invited speakers.
Only conferences organized by EPS Divisions and Groups may apply.
The maximum amount of the grant is Euro 1,000.
Conditions for participation
The conference needs to be organized by an EPS Division or Group, and be registered as a Europhysics Conference.
Reporting
Divisions and Groups that receive these grants must provide the name of the invited speaker who received the grant. A summary of the talk or an article by the speaker is to be submitted in a form suitable for publication in EPN.
Selection procedure & criteria
All Europhysics conferences are eligible. Applications should be made to the Grants Committee at least 6 months prior to the conference and contain the name of the invited speaker, justification for the choice as invited speaker indicating what policy goals are being addressed, and abstract of the presentation to be made.
The Grants Committee will make the selection on the basis of quality of the speaker and talk, and on the implementation of EPS policy goals. Conference organizers should be aware prior to applying for the grant that the grants are competitive, subject to availability of funds.
Normally, no Europhysics Conference will receive speaker grants for successive conferences.
Applications should be sent to the EPS Secretariat via email.
