Divisions: Condensed Matter Division
Group Pages

The Condensed Matter Division (CMD) of the European Physical Society aims to serve its scientific, industrial and educational communities by helping them to obtain the latest information on progress in their specialties and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to help them interact with their peers and to develop professionally.

For this, CMD organises a number of major physics events, awards two of the foremost prizes in Condensed Matter Physics - the EPS-CMD Europhysics Prize (sponsored by EPL, the EPS flagship letters journal) and the Liquid Matter Prize - and issues a monthly Newsletter.

CMD Conferences (+)

A major activity of CMD and its sections is the organisation of quality peer-reviewed conferences and scientific meetings, including the biennial EPS CMD conference, as well as several other major European conferences.

The last CMD conference, CMD2020GEFES, was held online. It was organised together with the Condensed Matter Physics Division GEFES of the Spanish Royal Physics Society RSEF, comprised 35 Minicolloquia (topical) sessions, and attracted 2000 participants.

The next General conference of the EPS Condensed Matter Division (CMD29) to be held in Manchester (UK) is postponed to August 21st through 26th, 2022.

CMD29 (http://cmd29.iopconfs.org) is organised together with the Institute of Physics (IOP). The main part of the conference will be the now traditional minicolloquia, or topical sessions. 49 Minicolloquium proposals have been received.

The next Liquid Matter conference of the EPS Condensed Matter Division (LMC2020), initially planned for July 17th-22nd, 2020, will be held online July 19-24, 2021.

The 35th European Conference on Surface Science is planned to take place at the University of Luxembourg, Belval Campus, from the August 30th to September 3rd, 2021.
