The aim of the 2nd workshop on Studies of dynamically compressed matter with X-rays is to discuss the scientific opportunities and technical challenges opened by the recent advances in the study of dynamically compressed matter using X-rays. Since the 1st workshop, in February 2015, there has been much progress in this field at major high brilliance X-ray facilities, synchrotrons and X-ray free electron lasers alike, and we would like to make a comprehensive overview of these activities worldwide.
In this context, a High Power Laser Facility (HPLF) at the ESRF has recently been approved. This facility will be at first coupled to the X-ray absorption spectroscopy beamline ID24 and will be operational by 2018. We are now preparing a Conceptual Design Report to extend the domain of applications to include X-ray diffraction and imaging, in the framework of the ESRF-EBS upgrade. A gas gun will also become available on ID19, the X-ray imaging beamline, in 2018 thanks to a collaboration with Imperial College, London (UK).
The workshop will therefore also be an opportunity to collect the updated needs of our future user community, in the two science areas identified in the 1st Workshop: 1. extend the P, T domain to beyond what is possible today by static methods and 2. study the dynamic behaviour of materials at high strain rates.

EUCALL Bursaries for Young Researchers
The European Cluster of Advanced Laser Light Sources (EUCALL) provides Travel Bursaries for up to 20 Young Researchers to attend the Workshop. Selected candidates can receive up to 500€ to cover travel and registration costs to attend the Workshop. If you are interested, please visit this web site.
Registration is now possible at this link.
The preliminary programme will soon be available on the web site.
There is no registration fee, but we will ask participants to pay a lump sum of 150 Euros that covers: 3 nights and breakfast at the ESRF guesthouse, four meals, the workshop social dinner, and all the coffee breaks.
