EPS Europhysics Prize

The EPS Europhysics Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Condensed Matter Physics (formerly the Hewlett Packard and then Agilent Technologies Europhysics Award) has been presented since 1975, and has become one of the most prestigious awards for condensed matter physics in Europe. Many Europhysics Prize winners have subsequently been awarded the Nobel Prize in recognition of their achievements, including this year’s Nobel Prize winners both in Physics (Albert Fert and Peter Grünberg) and in Chemistry (Gerhard Ertl).

Nominations are now being sought for the 2008 Award. The EPS Europhysics Prize recognizes recent work by one or more individuals in the area of physics of condensed matter, which, in the opinion of the Society's selection committee, represents scientific excellence. Recent work is defined to mean completed within 5 years prior to the award. The award may be given for either pure or applied research at the discretion of the Society.

Only complete nominations will be considered. For a nomination to be complete, it must include:

- a completed nomination form (download it here)

- a complete CV

- a publication list (5 pages maximum)

- an indication of the three most relevant papers to the nomination

- a description of the work justifying the nomination (2 pages maximum)

- a suggested short citation.

The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 15 January 2008. Nominations should be sent to David LEE, EPS, 6, rue des Frères Lumière, BP 2136, 68060 Mulhouse Cedex, France, to the attention of the EPS Europhysics Prize Selection Committee. Please keep your nomination confidential. Proposals will be acknowledged but not followed by any further correspondence.

The 2008 Award will be presented at the 22nd General Conference of the EPS Condensed Matter Division to be held in Rome from 25-29 August 2008.
